World
The book series Animorphs, written by K.A. Applegate, mostly takes place on the planet Earth, but there are at least two other worlds worth discussing. The Andalite Homeworld and the Yeerk Homeworld.

Earth:
The Earth of the Animorphs is the exact same Earth that we live in. Before the war with the Yeerks, at least, everything was the same. Vast oceans separated the land masses and cities and towns ranged from huge to tiny and hidden. After the war with the Yeerks, there were several new Space Ports opened that helped open trade with the Andalites and a monument was created somewhere on the west coast of America for the one of the heroes of the war that died in the last battle with the alien threat.

Andalite Homeworld:
The Andalite Homeworld is similar to Earth in some ways, but very different in others. The main species is, of course, the Andalites. There is a small variety of plants and animals. The main kind of trees look like colorful asparagus. The grass also grows in shades of blue and pink. The Andalites live in family scoops, usually carved in the sides of cliffs, with vast open land for each family. There are three space ports which are the only things that could be considered 'cities' on their landscape.

Yeerk Homeworld:
The Yeerk Homeworld is a desolate, barren land that is constantly assaulted by lightening storms above. There is very sparse plant life, most of it is dark red and poisonous. Huge Yeerk pools mar the land and take in the grimy yellow/green sunrays from their life-giving Kandrona
sun. There are no cities to speak of. After the Andalite Prince named Seerow mistakingly gave the Yeerks the ability to conquer worlds, the Andalites have kept a blockade around this planet to prevent any more ships from leaving.

Culture

Earth:
Once again, exactly that the Earth that we live in, with extremely different cultures and traditions. After the Yeerk war there were some changes though. Yeerks were allowed to morph into Earth animals and stay that way for more than two hours (becoming 'stuck' as those animals) so now the jungles, forests, and oceans are filled with once-Yeerk creatures. Trade was opened with alien creatures, most notably the Andalites, the military started training troops to go into space to finish off the Yeerk threat. The Animorphs, the children that fought the war almost by themselves, are hailed as heroes and saviors. There is also a settlement of aliens that were freed from Yeerk control (the Hork-Bajir) living in Yellowstone Park.

Andalite Homeworld:
The Andalites are a race that are extremely proud of their traditions and culture. They are organized around their war effort with warriors that answer the war-princes (generals) that answer to a basic war council of highly ranked war-princes that answers directly to the people. The Andalites are free-roaming. They manage to create extremely sophisticated space ships because each family does one part of the ship until the entire world has a hand in creating it. Andalites are expected to perform daily rituals in which they dedicate themselves to their people and to their princes. Archaic in the way they believe in revenge and in noble death during battle, the Andalites are a complicated race of secrets and arrogance. They blame themselves for unleashing the Yeerk threat yet tend to look down on other races. They can be saviors or just a cold and callous as the Yeerks they fight.

Yeerk Homeworld:
The Yeerks are a parasitic race. They crawl into the ear canal of other species and flatten themselves over the brains of their hosts. They then have complete control of that host. The host is still able to see what the Yeerk is doing, but it is like watching it on a movie. The Yeerks learned of other planets from the Andalite war-prince Seerow and used the knowledge he gave them to overtake an Andalite ship, kill the guards that were stationed by it, and took off towards the stars. They began to conquer worlds and take whole species of hosts by force. They saw in humans the perfect hosts, and turned to them without knowing that a small group of human teenagers would beat them and turn the tides of the war.

Powers
Morphing is actually not a magic but technology, but I’m listing it here since I’m pretty sure that it counts for this one anyway. Basically the Andalites have developed the technology that all they have to do is touch this blue box (called the Escafil Device, among other names) and then they gain the ability to morph into any creature they ‘acquire’. Acquiring merely means touching the creature long enough to focus on them, after that their DNA enters the body of the morpher and is always with them. From then on all they must do is focus on the animal and they can become it.

Morphing is not always pretty, in fact it is very disgusting and jerk. It looks as if it should hurt, but the Andalites figured out a way to make it so the only sensation felt during normal morphing is a tingling or a itching. There are some who are naturally good at it that are called estreen by the Andalites, they are even able to turn morphing into an art form. The downside to normal morphing is that you cannot stay in morph for more than two-hours or you stay in that form. You become a nothlit, a creature with the your mind intact but your body stuck in whatever form you are in.

In order to acquire a creature you must be in your original body, not a morph. In order to morph you must be in your original body as well, in other words, you couldn’t morph into a bear and then to a bird, you must demorph in between so your order would go original body->bear->original body->bird. Morphing is extremely exhausting and doing rapid morphing can really wear a person down. Morphing not only carries the DNA of a creature, but it’s instincts as well, and it’s possible to get ‘lost’ in morph (where you just sort of let the animal take over).

A note about thought-speak: In their natural forms Andalites have no mouths and therefore 'speak' to people using a form of telepathy called thought-speak. While in morph the morpher can also use this ability even if they are not Andalites in their original form. It is denoted with '< >' instead of quotations. Thought-speak can be said 'privately' when it is directed at only one person or a group of people and can only be heard by that person or group (sort of like a whisper) or it can be public, when everyone within reach can hear it. It is usually not considered intrusive or invasive, mostly it is described as a soft implant of words or images into the listener's mind.
