Backstory
Keigo is the second born child in the Asano family, which consists of his older sister Mizuho and his parents. Life was relatively normal for him and there was really nothing to speak of that stuck out in particular. Up until middle school, Keigo was typically a loner, very shy and lacking in friends, though he was apparently very smart when it came to school. It was when he met and became friends with Kojima Mizuiro that things started to change for him. He became far more out-going, loud and bubbly and his grades soon plummeted, but he really didn't care; it was a minor sacrifice in the name of his newly-gained happiness.
Fast-forward a few years and the first day of high school was upon him. It was an abrupt turn for Keigo as far as pace was concerned; his class was apparently full of well-known bullies! Things didn't stop there, however, as two of those supposed bullies would play an important role in his life. He came to meet Kurosaki Ichigo and Sado Yasutora through the most violent turn of events, which consisted of the two boys beating back the expected onslaught of bullies. From that day on, Keigo's fear of these "bullies" was eradicated and he became very attached to the both of them, often trying to get them to hang out with Mizuiro and himself.
Now friends with the two, and having been in near-constant contact with Ichigo ever since, Keigo gained a level of spiritual power, allowing him to be able to communicate and see spirits and, eventually, Hollows and Arrancar. However, Keigo being as cowardly as he is, merely assumed these sightings were either figments of his imagination or, oddly enough, actors setting up for a movie shoot.
When the politics of Soul Society started to get mixed up in his life, Keigo witnessed several Hollows and even Shinigami running around Karakura, Madarame Ikkaku and Ayasegawa Yumichika being two of the more prominent ones. After wandering around that night, he watched Ikkaku take on an Arrancar, and afterwards, made a deal with him. Ikkaku promised he would keep Keigo safe in exchange for Keigo providing he and Yumichika lodgings at his house. From there, he learned--mostly by eavesdropping during the fight--that Ichigo was a God of Death, or Shinigami. He kept this information to himself, even after Ichigo's short return to Karakura, and tried his best to act as he normally would.
After Ichigo left for Hueco Mundo, Keigo, Mizuiro and Tatsuki all followed after him to Urahara Shoten, where they learned that there was still a great deal they did not know about their friend and protector.
Shortly after leaving Urahara's, Keigo blacked out, reawakening in a plain, unmarked room in Landel's.
Personality
Keigo is openly friendly, especially to women, and won't hesitate to start up a conversation at random. Despite this, he tends to get overly excited and hyper, and, in turn, loud vocally. He'll yell, scream, shout and make just about any other noise he can coerce out of his vocal cords to express his feelings. This goes the same for when he is frustrated, angry or sad. He is extremely dramatic and uses wide, physical gestures to further illustrate a situation, such as arm waving, dancing, spinning, jumping or just full-on grabbing someone to make his point. This type of behavior led to many a bully picking fights with him during his school years, Keigo often relying on his friends to bail him out, such as Kurosaki Ichigo and Sado Yasutora. But, just because he had people backing him didn't mean that he wasn't punched, kicked or screamed at by them, either. In general, Keigo was a punching bag for his more violent friends, who used the excuse of his loud mouth as a reason to "shut him up." Yet, regardless, Keigo always bounces back, just as loyal to his friends as ever. He absolutely cannot stand being by himself, though can often be seen with a small smile on his face, even while alone.
While friendly, Keigo often puts up a sort of boundary between himself and people he doesn't fully know or trust. He'll look at them with a sort of stand-offish, cautious eye, nitpicking at their quirks or behavior as a sort of way to discern if they are trustworthy. This could be because of being bullied thoroughly, thus making him slow to fully accept someone. But, once his trust is gained, Keigo is often described as being "too nice," going out of his way to accommodate others. He will make plans, offer help to them and even go as far as to stand up to bullies and adversaries, often trying to "negotiate" with them or just inflate their ego to the point of making the threat lose interest ( i.e.: "Oh, you know you're so much stronger than him! There's no need for you to waste your time beating him up, right? You're the best there is!" ) or even just putting himself at the risk of getting turned into the target himself.
While he cares deeply for his friends and is willing to help them out, Keigo is also shrewed and smart about protecting himself as well. Most of his attempts to distract enemies and drive them away benefit himself as well as his targeted friend. If all else fails, he'll run, or attempt to, but isn't as lowly as to abandon a friend.
To add onto an aspect of his friendliness, Keigo is a huge flirt and perhaps one can even go as far as to call him a tad perverted. He loves to gawk at pretty girls, comment openly on their breast sizes and how cute they would look in certain outfits. Though he says such things, he is quite gentlemanly and suave while speaking to girls directly, using a soft, polite, flirty tone of voice. He likes to think of himself as handsome, despite being average in appearance. And though he tries hard to gain attention from the ladies, every time he is met with rejection and sometimes even a punch or slap from the more rowdy of his choices.
Keigo is also apparently rather intelligent, despite his poor grades in school reflecting otherwise. This could be explained by his lazy, fun-loving nature; he would much rather go out and be with his friends or play video games than just sit at his desk and do homework all day and night. He often regarded the school grade-rankings as insulting and would get upset if he found his friends anywhere near the highest tier in his class, calling them "traitors."
In general, Keigo is extremely clingy and social and enjoys making friends.
Out of Landel's
Keigo's only known abilities are the ability to see and communicate ( i.e.: touch, speak to ) with spirits. He can defend himself from basic attacks, such as kicks and punches, but he still needs training in that department; usually this requires Keigo to have experienced a certain type of attack before he is able to anticipate it and block it.
At Landel's
Upon arriving at Landel's, his spiritual abilities have been reduced significantly; that which he could have seen clearly, as far as spirits go, is only a blur in front of his eyes and he had has lost any ability to understand or even hear their voices. If touched by a spirit, at the most, Keigo will feel a chill and perhaps become a bit uneasy, but nothing more. Because his ability to successfully block attacks is in direct correlation to his spiritual level, that as well has been reduced to next-to-nothing. Basically, Keigo is as he was before the dramatic changes started in Karakura.
