City of Villains
Note: As this is all a work in progress, I would direct those interested in background information to ParagonWiki and the official City of Villains and City of Heroes webpages. I currently have information on Recluse in my LJ profile, and more links there.
World
Working on this section- many historical pieces have a very pro-heroes slant, and it may take some time for me to put all the pieces together in a way that makes sense. Will include extensive history from 1930-2007. Until then, see the page for Lord Recluse. The background section covers many events from 1892 onwards
Culture
Also work in progress- Will include notable geopolitical differences, as well as brief summaries of major Villain/Hero factions.
Powers
Powers within the world of CoX are derived from the opening of a box (thought to be the mythical Pandora's Box), housed on an island off the coast of Greece. The opening of this box in 1930 started the new age of super powered heroes and villains which continues to the present date. In most cases this was not the actual source of an individual's powers, but the catalyst for other forces to manifest. A few powerful entities draw their strength not only from their latent abilities, but also from mythic figures of past ages. Paragon City's Statesman has the powers of Zeus, for instance, but does not emulate the god in other aspects. Lord Recluse's powers come from Tartaros, the entity/realm that was the Greek equivalent of Hell. Little is known about any historical changes pertaining to Zeus, but Tartaros is confirmed to have been an actual entity. He was the brother of Gaia, and both received their powers when they found the same box that Recluse and Statesman did, many centuries later. There is no known limit to the powers that natives to this world could achieve- Recluse and Statesman are both just slightly less powerful than Superman.
