World
Earth, end of the 19th century.
Culture
Same as history states it. Things don't change until our story begins. The lead character, Allen Walker, works as an Exorcist for the Dark Order. Not many people know of this organization, but they receive their orders from the Vatican.
Powers
There are several types of people and demons and each has a different kind of power:
Exorcists: They use a power called "Innocence" that is specific to them and their personality. It can be an object that the user carries on their person, such as a sword, a bell, or a hammer, or it can be the rare type, "parasite," that is actually a part of the user's body, such as their arm or their teeth. The exorcist's power is the only effective way to cleanse an "Akuma" or demon. If they are destroyed by anything else, their soul cannot be saved, only destroyed.
The Earl of the Millenium/Akuma: The Earl is the creator of the Akuma. He travels around the world, searching for people who have lost their loved ones. He tells them that he can bring those loved ones back to life, but he neglects to mention the cost. He returns the loved one's soul into a mechanical body, an "Akuma," then orders the new Akuma to kill the one who wished them back and steal their skin as a disguise.
The Earl's own power has not often been seen, but the Akuma all develop their own strange powers and techniques as they kill more and more people. A rather morbid "Level up" system.
The Noahs: A family that supposedly descended from the Noah in the bible. They claim to be the true apostles of God and have the ability to destroy Innocence, as well as their own unique powers. Known Noah's are: Tyki Mick, Jasdavi, Rhode Camelot, and Skin Boric. Their abilities range from Illusory magic to transformations to walking through walls. At least one also has a regenerative ability, though whether or not all of them share this is unknown.
