Wutai

Wutai: pagodaWutai:
The name of both the continent and what appears to be the main town. Godo Kisaragi is the current leader, and it assumed that Yuffie Kisaragi, his daughter, is either heiress or princess.

Streams run through the town, with various buildings on small 'islands' that can be reached by crossing small, arched bridges. Godo's residence, the Pagoda and a little shrine with a very large gong are located on the very outskirts of the town, surrounded by trees and shrubs.

Hidden passages and rooms are common in many of the buildings, with secret levers, sliding doors and crawl spaces.

Wutai appears to be based on both Japan and China.

Mt. Tamblin: A rocky mountain. Location of 'Fort Tamblin'. The fort itself is maze-like; tricky to navigate, especially when the way forward is disguised by a sliding or spinning wall. The inner sanctuary contains a shrine-like building and a large courtyard.

Da-chao: Mountains with statues carved into them. The mountain has many winding paths and also contains caves, one of which is protected by an ever-burning fire. To pass through, a person is required to possess the 'Leviathan Scales'. It is likely that the mountains have some religious significance.

The Water God: The people of Wutai worship Leviathan as their guardian deity.

Engetsu Circle: The special forces of the Wutaian army, excelling in both combat and espionage. Use gunlances as weapons. Their motto is: "To save the water god from destruction, we will crush all of Wutai's enemies". According to custom, each member is presented with a name related to the moon.

The Five Mighty Saints: The five members of the Engetsu Circle who organized the remaining forces after Wutai lost the war. They are: The First Lance "Maetsuki", the Second Lance "Shitsuki", the Third Lance "Satsuki", the Fourth Lance "Migitsuki" and the Fifth Lance "Nakatsuki".

The Five Mighty Gods: Also known as the Wusheng, they are five veterans who had the capabilities to surpass all others. Lord Godo Kisaragi stood at their summit, on the top level of Wutai's Pagoda. Those who wished to challenge the Wusheng had to rise through the Pagoda, defeating each of the five warriors before they could progress to the next level. They are: Gorki ("Power Change"), Shake ("Speed Change"), Chekhov ("Magic Change"), Staniv (Weapon Change"), and Godo ("Omni Change").

The one who defeated all five would take control of the Wusheng, the Pagoda and also gain the Leviathan materia.

Sometime between late 0007 and early 0008, Yuffie Kisaragi defeated all five of the Wusheng. Though she accepted the Leviathan materia, it was decided that her father, Godo, would continue to stand as the head so that she could continue her journey with Avalanche.
