Putting the eternal question to rest: 'Aidou' is his surname, 'Hanabusa' his forename. The only people who call him by his first name appear to be family members - otherwise, everyone just calls him Aidou. Just so we're clear. XD;;
Backstory
One of the elite vampires, Aidou is christened “Idol” by the Day Class girls for his instigating behaviour, as he goes out of his way to act cute and garner their attention. Has been acquainted with Yuki and Kiryu Zero since his arrival to the school four years prior, the only two humans along with the Headmaster who know the Night Class‘s secret. Aidou's family history before coming to the Academy is unknown. It becomes apparent, however, that he, his cousin Kain Akatsuki, and future Night Class member Souen Ruka were childhood acquaintances and often played together (when Aidou was four in human years). Soon after meeting Kuran Kaname for the first time as kids--snarking at him in the typical Aidou fashion, and rebuffing Kaname's attempts for friendship--Aidou was taught about the history of the pure bloods and their standing. When they met again at a later occasion, Aidou found Kaname a changed person because of personal events, and came to admit that he actually liked Kaname. It was there that he made a vow to protect the Kuran heir.
As a B class, Aidou’s incredibly strong, and has the advanced ability to create and manipulate ice, along with a wide arrange of other capabilities unique to nobles. He attends the Academy with his cousin, and like every other noble bloodline, the Aidou family has a high standing in vampire society, and is shown to own a few grand residences around Japan. In fact, at a party later thrown at one of these residences, Aidou's father is the first to introduce Aidou's little sister, Tsukiko, as a potential bride for Kaname, being that their families would mix well.
Because of Kaname being the only pure blood at this Academy (being the "bait" that draws other vampires to attend and pledge themselves to an oath of peace), almost all of the Night Class obey Kaname unquestioningly. Almost. Not quite disobedient, Aidou is the one vampire who enjoys bending rules and indulging in his considerable curiosity, even if it means stepping on the Academy‘s toes. That’s not to say he isn’t staunchly loyal to the Kuran heir. Aidou is fiercely protective of Kaname, both for respect of his status and a more informal admiration as Aidou is one of the "right hand" vampires at Kaname's side. In actuality--like most of the Night Class--Aidou pledges himself more to Kaname then to the nebulous idea of peace. Kaname decidedly supports pacifism, but Aidou's said that although he'll refrain from hurting humans while at school, the only reason he and the other vampires agreed was because of Kaname's presence.
Also has a penchant for popping up around campus at inappropriate times. In one of these instances, Aidou (with his apathetic cousin in tow) end up confronting Yuki and two girls after catching the scent of blood, even though they should’ve been in school with the rest of the Night Class. Despite it being forbidden for obvious reasons, Aidou steals a taste from Yuki against her will, only to be caught and dragged off by Kaname. Aidou apologies, but nevertheless makes a tactless comment about Yuki‘s taste and gets a sound slap for it.
When faced with Kaname’s odd behaviour over Yuki (and in reality, somewhat romantic feelings), he questions her a few days after their encounter, when she drops by the Moon Dorm in search of Kaname. Aidou switches from playfully cute to downright menacing, threatening her over her relationship with Kaname. He goes so far as to encase a staircase in ice within seconds and attempt to do the same to her. Kaname, naturally, punishes him once again for his actions. Although he tends to go about it in a backwards way, his actions reflect his true feelings as a member of the Night Class: it's because he cares about Kaname's well-being that he first acts hostile to Yuki, she being a questionable presence in Kaname's life. In a later meeting, Aidou is struck by Kaname a third time as he speaks out of turn to an elder vampire, losing his composure in his haste to defend Kaname.
While cheerful and charismatic, Aidou doesn't typically go out of his way to please or befriend others unless it's for dramatic effect, being dissociated with humans by the vampire community as he is. Nonetheless, he constantly teases Yuki, and takes perverse pleasure in riling Day Class girls up by hugging her and showing her extra attention while she goes about her Guardian duties--leaving her to deal with their jealousy. All in all, despite claiming he hates her, Aidou admits to being similar to Yuki in one regard: he cares for Kaname, and doesn’t care if he’s betrayed in the end.
Aidou himself is the typical self-assured aristocrat, who claims he can’t sleep unless his pillows and curtains smell like lavender, etc., etc. Since he’s been living in the Night Class’s Moon Dorm for around four to five years, Aidou spends the majority of his evenings going to class, although extraneous circumstances leave him embroiled in the Academy’s problems, on top of the trouble he creates on his own. In his spare time, he helps big name companies by writing research papers (he turned down modelling). Two men from an institute actually come to the Academy and beg him to work for them, calling him the "Miracle Genius", to which he replies with complaining about day work and kicking them out. Technically, Night Class students aren't allowed to leave school grounds unless "chaperoned", but since the Night Class typically work under their own protocol, this rule doesn‘t seem to be followed very often.
In Aidou's case, he habitually visits a dessert shop in town, leaving a trail of besotted women in his wake. On top of that, he insincerely flirts with Day Class girls, and only wracks up more and more fans because of it. Although he whines about the noise, the morning of St. Valentine’s Day finds Aidou just as excited to receive chocolates as the girls who are giving them. The rest of the Night Class usually lags behind in the face of his enthusiam.
Unlike his dispassionate cousin, Aidou investigates things that catch his interest, unwilling to turn a blind eye. He's one of the first to realize that Kiryu Zero--who was raised in a family of vampire hunters, and consequently lost them in a vampire attack--is becoming a vampire himself, and later, is the only one to witness Kaname murder Hio Shizuka, another pure blood, and then proceed to place the blame at Zero’s feet. The morning after Hio Shizuka‘s death, he turns down the request to attend a council meeting with Kaname and the others. Later on in the evening, he attempts to run away from the Moon Dorm (forcing Zero and Yuki to chase him all around campus) with the intent to speak with the Headmaster, but before this plan can go into action, he wakes up in Landel’s.
Personality
Typically, one can gauge how comfortable Aidou is in their presence by how immature his behaviour becomes--those who don’t know him well will only get the fair-spoken facade, but in an informal setting those who get close enough will be privy to his capricious mood. At the same time, this makes it hard for Aidou to endear himself to others, as most end up exasperated victims like Kain. He gets away with acting like a childish brat most of the time, because in terms of vampire age, Aidou‘s still just a teenager, and a spoiled one at that. Constantly complaining about getting up in the evening, he takes out his sleep deprived crankiness on his classmates, and when not grumbling about any assorted topic at any given time, he has hyperactive moments that only cause headaches for the unsuspecting people around him. Enjoys being in the spotlight.
Aidou possesses a fairly complex personality. On one end, he can seem to be the most humanized vampire out of the Night Class, next to the naturally kind Ichijou. On the other, he can be cold and predatory, easily threatening to kill someone without missing a beat, no matter who they are or how friendly he is with them. Surprisingly meticulous when it comes to issues of importance, he doesn't think highly of those who lose their self-control, ie: vampires who automatically act at the sight of blood. Beneath the surface, even the superficial attention by his "fans" doesn't mean much. That's not to say he doesn't put on a worthy show for them when he's in the mood. Despite his rashness and most other signs pointing to the opposite, dignity and honor remain extremely important to Aidou - there are many boundaries he won't cross out of respect. While most of his faculties are engaged in less respectable endeavors, Aidou can and will go to great lengths to defend what he has to, including people and things he hates. If he believes Kaname would expect it of him, he'd do it. That's not to say he can't be churlish and nasty when provoked.
It’s apparent, however, that although Aidou teases and aggravates those he deems below him, and even digs his nose into their business, he has a healthy respect (even fear) geared towards those more powerful than him, or those he's unsure about. Aidou has power and he knows it, but he's not lacking in intelligence--he knows when to back off. Through Kaname’s doings, Aidou also proves that he is at once loyal and steadfast to those worthy of his regard.
At Landel's
Although still much stronger than someone of his figure should be, physical abilities have been heavily repressed, despite still being stronger than the average human male--but with their suppression, so too the more severe cravings for blood. Flesh wounds heal more quickly than normal, and ingesting blood will allow injuries to heal almost instantaneously (it depends on the severity). Is still able to manipulate ice in small measures.
In the beginning: "Woke up" near the end of Day 22, which basically entailed being dragged out of bed by his nurse. After nearly attacking her, Aidou proceeded to be reprimanded by Aoyagi Ritsuka, then chose to harass Ritsuka, then realized his lack of power and threw a fit, forcing the brunt of his agitation on the boy. After which, returned to harassing him. Also discovered Alucard "wining and dining" without covering his tracks, and mistaking him for some E class, proceeded to lock horns over the bulletin board, resulting in an exploding necrit corpse and a short brawl in the kitchens during the corresponding nightshift. Aidou has had his blood drawn twice by Alucard. Not only is that an insult in and of itself, Alucard struck him across the face, which is pretty much the height of insolence in VK's vampire society. Hell hath no fury like an Aidou scorned.
Because of his internal disorientation over being brought to Landel's, he's been quick to make enemies of quite a few people - whether a by-product of his poor moods, or through unintentional imbroglios. There are few people left whom he hasn't alienated. Has come to the conclusion that hassling unsuspecting people on the board is an easy way to vent his frustration, too.
By Day 27, he's met quite a few people, and has stuck his nose up at most of them. When it comes to his food, he's currently made Claire Bennet his unwilling blood donor and has fed off her multiple times, all without yet revealing his identity. He's taken part in verbal sparring matches with his therapist, Hatori Sohma, had his shoulder bitten through by Indra, had an emotional encounter with his first mimic, in the form of Aoyagi Seimei, and its intended victim, Aoyagi Ritsuka, had an ironic conversation with the so-called vampire hunter Dean Winchester in the showers, half-naked, along with being thoroughly messed up by Reika's emotastic tattoo of death and depression during an exhausting nightshift that ended with Aidou saving the life of one Bella Swan. Being forced to experience such emotional trauma has been his lowest point to date. But the fun didn't end after that, because during Nightshift 27, Aidou came face-to-face with his cousin, Kain Akatsuki, and a second mimic--a mimic that stole Aidou's own face and used it against him. Slaughtering the creature with his bare hands was Aidou's first offficial kill in Landel's. With Kain missing a chunk of his neck, and Aidou covered in blood from head to toe, the family reunion wasn't a pleasant one.
Landel's first fieldtrip to Doyleton took place on Day 28, and after being forced into grungy teenaged clothes, meeting and consequently loathing Allen Walker in all of five minutes, wandering around town... Aidou lost track of Kain. Assuming his cousin had just gotten on another bus on the way back, when all three buses parked in front of the building and the sudden onsaught of Nightshift 28 turned them into deathmobiles, Aidou was the first to break open the rear door (turning a blind eye to everyone else) and slink out without looking back. Killing two of the virgin-eating birds was Aidou's great achievement for the night. Come Day 29, though, Aidou quickly realized that Kain was missing. Deigning to ask Abarai Renji to search for his soul--a guy Aidou routinely harassed on the board--meant he owed the guy one, and led Aidou to become withdrawn and critical. Demanding Miku make time for him and explain more about Reika's abilitities, he then tracked down Kyon, newly turned vampire after a bad might of M-U experiments. The only person who could unwind him even slightly was Kairi. That night, he discovered his Night Class uniform in the closest! Now a stylish vampire, Aidou met up with Kyon, threatened to kill him, got the details behind the transformation, and decided to adopt Kyon--all to see if Kyon'd snap with time. Stole maps from Arts and Crafts, took Kyon along on his investigations, and ended the night by taking a vial of monster blood from the animal kennel.
The next day started off with a riot, wherein Aidou avoided fighting, was spared any sedation, and met his second roommate. Also got Uchiha Sasuke to agree to be Kyon's blood donor for the night, so after getting Kyon fed and letting him (against better judgement) play in the Clinic, Aidou went for his own meal. Snatching Kagura away from her group gave him enough time to bite her in the stairwell, before her friends came looking--fleeing up the stairs, Aidou got away, the only memorable characteristic being "a guy in white," going on to explore the upper floors and catch a glimpse of the poor Radio Dude's corpse. Spent Day 31 checking in with Kyon and flirting with Rinali Li (and pissing off Allen). Nightshift 31 promised to be productive, after ransacking the storage room upstairs, but turned into another emotional landmine. A phantasm swiped Aidou, leaving him to be saved from sitting on his ass by Takaya Ougi. Aidou feels he owes the kid a debt.
And being put knocked right back to where he was with Reika--ashamed, frustrated, and unsure--Aidou had a surprisingly sincere conversation with Rinali. One of few. The second therapy session with Hatori was much different than the first, all things considered.
Telepathy
I can only assume telepathy is also possible for some vampires, and for one of Aidou's level, he would probably have somewhat of a natural resistance to it. If someone were trying to use telepathy on him, he'd at least be able to tell, even if he has no interest or talent for it himself. Since secrecy is his bread and butter, he wouldn't be happy having his mind pried at.
