Forgotten Past:
Between the human world and the Soul Society of the shinigami, or Death Gods that usher souls to the next life, is the Dangai, a space that must be used to travel between them. It is there that souls that become lost and cut off from the cycle of rebirth come together to create the Kyogoku, a new dimension in the Dangai. There the energy and memories of the lost souls are separated in preparation to attempt to rejoin the cycle to be reborn anew. The lost memories form into a single being sent to the human world, the Shinenju. Or Senna.
Senna first came to the human world as things called "Blanks," the very souls that had lost their memories, were attacking Ichigo and Rukia. As a shinigami who wielded the zanpakuto, or soul cutter sword, Mirokumaru, she wiped out the attacking Blanks with her wind attacks. Afterward, Rukia attempted to get answers out of her, like who she was and what squad she was with, but Senna brushed the questions off. Rukia went back to Soul Society to gain more information, leaving Ichigo to chase Senna down as she ran off.
She led Ichigo on a goose chase all day, and Ichigo learned that she remembered her past in the town they were in. Not long after, she ran off again, leaving Ichigo to ask other shinigami if they remembered their past lives. The answer given was no. The shinigami also told him of the situation that had arose in Soul Society--the Kyogoku formed in the Dangai was growing, and if it kept up, both the human world and Soul Society would be forced together, destroying both worlds. They determined an outside group was responsible, and that they were looking for the Shinenju. With instructions to find the Shinenju, Ichigo returned to look for Senna.
Once found, Senna participated in a high-wire act, before having a discussion which Ichigo about the situation at hand. She agreed to help him in exchange for a ride on a ferris wheel. Ichigo makes a comment that she must like high places, leaving Senna to comment that if you're in high places, everything that was unclear to that point suddenly becomes clear. She accidentally stole a hair ribbon that Ichigo ended up paying for, and as she was putting it on, she became disturbed by an influx of memories. To try and overcome the confusion that arose from them, Senna ran to a nearby graveyard, looking for her family's tombstones. She again became disorientated by memories she was experiencing; all of which having to do with her living with different families, and different scenarios in which she was raised and lived. While confused, a group called the Dark Ones moved in to attack her. She became a Shinigami and defended herself, but was outnumbered, before Ichigo showed up to protect her. After a short battle, the Dark Ones fled, and Senna followed Ichigo home.
The next day Ichigo and Senna were on the look-out for the Blanks or the Dark Ones when they came across a small spirit boy. He was looking for his father who had been separated from him. Seeing nothing that could contribute to finding further information, Senna convinced Ichigo to help find the boy's father. They went on a search around town, coming up empty handed. Ichigo was frustrated by the waste of time until Senna told him that this was the boy's last wish, and if it was to be his last memory, it should be a good one. Around that time they came across a small festival filled with spirits. The boy found his father within, and the two frightened Senna by the father stating that the spirits had led him here, just like how Senna had led the boy to the same place. Again overwhelmed by memories, she tried to open up to Ichigo before gates from Soul Society opened nearby.
The two were confronted by a large group of shinigami, who told them that there was no record of a shinigami named Senna, and the zanpakuto, Mirokumaru, was lost in the Dangai one hundred years ago. They went on to state that Senna was the Shinenju, that she wasn't supposed to exist, and that she needed to be destroyed. Her very presence was the catalyst needed to force the two worlds together, and if she was returned to just memories there was no danger of that happening. Ichigo moved to defend an extremely distraught Senna--stating that no matter what she was, she was here and alive now--when the Dark Ones attacked again. In the melee, Senna was taken.
The Dark Ones took her to the Kyogoku in the Dangai, and hooked her to a device powered by the Blanks. Since the Blanks were souls lacking memories, and all Senna was were memories, the Blanks would rush her, and the energy given off would be amplified to collapse that entire dimension, which would cause the Soul Society and the human world to collide. The annihilation of both worlds would come about to sate the Dark Ones' petty revenge for being exiled from Soul Society a millennia ago.
In the meantime Ichigo and a few others had found a way into the Kyogoku from a hint left by Senna, and were engaging the Dark Ones in combat. As they slowly overpowered the Dark Ones, the fabric of the world weakened, and even as they defeated the last one, and Ichigo rescued Senna, the effects of the device prevailed, and the dimension started to collapse. Senna realized that she wanted the world that Ichigo lived in, and Ichigo himself, to live more than anything else. She used her power and the power of the controlled Blanks to separate the worlds again, and saved both at the cost of herself.
Weakened, she asked Ichigo to take her to her family's gravesite so she could see her name on one of the stones. Her name was on none of them, but Ichigo stated it was, allowing her to believe she existed as a separate life and wasn't just combined memories. Relieved to the point of tears, Senna faded away, and with that, everyone's memories of her as well.
Personality:
Senna has a very carefree persona. She's cheerful, but gets bored easily, and likes to find things that amuse her. She doesn't pay much attention to the Soul Society, mostly because of her lack of insight on it, and would rather just do as she pleases. When asked questions she doesn't care for, she's quick to turn questions on the person asking them in an attempt to distract them. Senna is very outgoing, and has no problem talking to others or being the center of attention. In fact, she even flourishes in it. As she 's very active and doesn't like to waste time, she's someone that fully lives life and enjoys all parts of it. Though, due to her carefree nature, she has a tendency of overlooking some of society's standards, and just does what she wishes. She doesn't use titles that much, like -san, etc, and is somewhat indifferent to things that she doesn't think matters. Like when she accidentally steals a hair ribbon and is confused as to why Ichigo insists on paying for it. She once climbed on an electricity line and decided to walk it, ignoring the surprise from people below her, and when she fell, she simply reappeared in a different place, with no concern that others would notice anything different. She's sarcastic at times and full of smart remarks, and is sometimes able to be goaded into anger in battle. She has a great deal of determination and pride, as she wants to finish fights that matter, even when she's losing, and never gives up. Even though she doesn't remember actually being a Shinigami, she still holds to what they would do, and acts accordingly in battle (joining the fight against the Dark Ones) or life (helping lost souls find their way). Where others might become bitter or jaded about life, Senna is still upbeat. She sees life as it truly is, but would rather try to help better it than become upset by it. She prefers to run or dance instead of walking whenever possible, and is constantly in motion. She's very curious, loves high places more than anything, and is drawn to the color red.
Although her nature is carefree, she's completely genuine and loyal to those that have gained her respect. Senna has her own way of doing things, but she still cares for the world around her, and wouldn't want anything to happen to it. She never thought twice about sacrificing herself for Ichigo and the world he lived in, and cares deeply for him, even outright stating that she would rather sacrifice herself than let him die. She gets scared about things she's unsure of, but still tries to do what she believes is right, and what she truly wants. Senna also has a fondness for children, and will do everything in her power to make sure they're okay. Deceit and manipulation aren't her games, and she'd rather outright say something then beat around the bush. She has a habit of sharing her opinions, asked for or not, and usually points out the obvious flaws in plans (like when she pointed out the holes in Ichigo's information from Urahara and Hitsugaya).
Senna randomly gets bombarded by the multiple memories that reside within her which causes identity confusion, as the memories constantly contradict each other. Her largest driving force is her attempt at finding her actual self within all of the combined memories, and proving that she belongs in the world she's in just as much as anyone else. She's very sensitive about this fact, and reacts poorly if people suggest otherwise, either getting angry or slipping into a state of shock. While in the human world, she searches for links to her physical family throughout the time period she's there, trying to find the place that she had once fit in. Her like of high places stems from the confusion from her memories and her search for her self, as she says at one point: "If you look from a high place, things that were unclear until then will become clear." Even once she understands that she is the Shinenju, she still holds on to the idea that she belonged in the world that she had protected, and continues to believe that she had once lived there. Contrary to what she's supposed to be, Senna is her own person, not just combined memories or a shell of a person; a vibrant life who's remained strong throughout hardships, and someone who's always there for her friends.
Powers/Abilites:
As an individual, she has a strong affinity for wind as she's able to influence the air around her. As the Shinenju, she gained the ability to control Blanks. As a shinigami, she has the zanpakuto, Mirokumaru, which transforms into a shakujo that can create and control electrically-charged tornados.
She doesn't have any skill with kido, the demon arts, that are used by shinigami, but can sense presences/power (but not differentiate, as she doesn't have the ability to see spirit threads), and solidify the air to walk or fight on, usually preferring the air to the ground. Senna can also teleport short distances (in and around forty feet) within eyesight. Usually as a shinigami, but sometimes as a human, fall maple leaves appear around her, accenting her attacks or special abilities. She can switch between a shinigami spirit and a human body effortlessly, which takes away the need for a gikai, or false body.
At Landel's, however... There's no Blanks around, she's without her zanpakuto, and she's limited to a human body, so outwardly, she seems like a normal human girl with sensing capabilities. Her affinity for wind stayed, albeit lessened, so the strong winds she used to conjure are now only gentle breezes, and her signature leaves are missing. Her teleportation skill is lessened as well, the forty feet dropping to about five, with more effort required to activate it, and it can only be used two times a night.
