The Corinthian
Name: The Corinthian
"Real" Name: Jack Ripley
Room Number: M55
Roommate: Yazoo
Age: Unknown, looks late twenties, earlier thirties
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: n.a., lol
Other Characteristics: Has mouths for eyes. Om nom nom. (However, most of the time bandages will be around his eyes so you can't see. Wouldn't wanna freak y'all out or anything)
Quick'n'Easy: The Corinthian was created to be a dark mirror for humanity. Yeah, not the coolest job in the world or anything. He skipped out, became a serial killer, was unmade, remade and has a bit of an identity issue. But we can overlook that for his rather creepy Imma-eat-your-eyes-ness. Though he is prone to being nicer to people so he can kill them later. If anyone ever wishes to be maimed, hit me up at 'heir in actual' at aim or drop me a note at if.june at gmail and we can work something out.
Personality
The Corinthian is not human, that's the first thing people should be aware of. He was created to prey on people's dreams, to prey on people more specifically. Everyone is either a toy or a tool, though he does have fun with both. Humans are just there for him to use and toss away, occasionally consume them as well. Ego? The Corinthian has that in spades, and it never even enters his head that someone may be better than him.
The Corinthian has about two modes, suave and angry. His 'suave' mode is where he thinks he's in control. In this he can be eloquent, considerate seeming and even seductive if he wants. This is when he catches his prey, offering them a fun night and ... well, he has fun. The angry mode is when he is forced to be something else than in control. He does exceedingly stupid things when in this mode, and is physically confrontational.
Note for psychics: The Corinthian isn't human, and he's supposed to reflect all your darkness and the like. However, he's been muted at Landels, so whatever you want for your character to pick up, but whatever it is, it isn't human.
History
The Corinthian is more than a thing of nightmares. He is a nightmare. Dream of the Endless created him to be a dark mirror for humanity, a nightmare which could show you all the worst parts of you. A nightmare which also had a penchant for consuming the eyes of young males. The first Corinthian was created a while back, even before the time of great European plagues and the like. He did his job, but was addicted to the waking world and was occasionally taken on visits. Then there came a time when Dream of the Endless was captured and imprisoned for many years. The Corinthian took this opportunity to leap from the Dreaming to the Waking world. He lurked in people's minds and possessed them, consuming their eyes. A lady by the name of Pestilence (among others) split a deal with him. She would teach him to kill and he would make her stop being who she was. In the end he killed her, achieving both ends of the bargain. Then came the fun part. For years the Corinthian skulked around the waking world as a serial killer who targeted young men and cut out their eyes. He gathered followers and like minded individuals. He went by many names and eventually was the guest of honor at a Serial Killer convention. It was here that his previous master, Dream, found him once again. The Endless called the nightmare petty and flawed and thus unmade him. The second Corinthian was created later in the Sandman series, and this one was less petty. He served to protect the child Daniel, hunted the god Loki (and ate his eyes) among other things. In the end of the series he stays in the Dreaming to serve his purpose. After Dream's death and incarnation in Daniel the Corinthian continues to reflect humanity, before being 'called' by a victim of the previous Corinthian. He confronts his past, so to speak, and then returns to the Dreaming. However, in doing so he gains an enemy in Echo who shows up later to cause trouble. Eventually the Corinthian is the cause of the Raven Matthew's death and is banished from the Dreaming. He is given eyes and Echo takes his place in the Dreaming.
Note: He has been taken from after 'The Wake', so the end of Sandman and before The Dreaming.
