Background:
In the beginning, there was "darkness." Then, the "darkness" shed a "tear." From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born. Shield claimed it could defend against any attack. Sword claimed it could slice through anything. The brothers began a legendary battle. At the end, both Sword and Shield shattered. Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and the sparks from the battle became the stars. As for the jewels, they fell to the ground and became the True Runes--The runes that all other runes were born from.

In the realm of Suikoden, the 27 True Runes allows all existence in the universe as the Runes themselves are the equivalent of Gods in this world. The True Runes are wholly sentient and each possess their own will and hold immeasurable power. Due to this many wars have been fought over the years by human kind, each fraction desiring to control the True Runes themselves, yet because of the True Runes sentient existence, they alone decide who is worthy enough to bear them.

They are often sought after by the powerful and influential people of the Suikoden world due to the True Runes nature of granting its bearer immortality. Along with granting each bearer immortality, the host of a True Rune also stops aging, they become immune to disease and all other natural causes of death although they can still die from physical trauma such as accidents or murder. While each True Rune is equal in their overall power, the ways in which each rune influences the environment and the world around vary greatly. Some are capable of great destruction, creation and transformation alike depending on the very nature and purpose of the rune itself, while others hold more defensive properties.

All True Runes though govern life on the planet and with their own divine will all True Runes hold a certain purpose in the world which they pursue with no other consideration. To keep life flowing fluidly and the balance of life even, some True Rune’s purposes for their bearer is to save lives and create order and harmony, while others seek out to slaughter lives and reap chaos and conflict throughout the lands.

Born not long after the creation of the 27 True Runes, Yuber was created by one of these 27 True Runes –the Eightfold Rune– in order to be this particular runes bearer. In essence, Yuber was the first being to play host to a True Rune all due to the Eightfold Rune’s desire to cause Chaos on the land. Bestowed with not only the power of the rune, Yuber was also gifted with immortality (The same in which every True Rune grants its bearer) and also gained the title and position of Chaos.

This was not to say that Chaos was to go ungoverned without Order and with the sense to balance out this discrepancy, the True Rune of The Four Noble Truths created its own bearer to correct this balance. Empowered with the ability to create and summon minions of chaos, Yuber was then faced with the bearer of the Four Noble Truths Rune –Pesmerga– causing a catastrophic battle to ensure between these forces.

With the power of the Rune of the Gate True Rune, the orbs were able to banish Chaos and Order to the World of Emptiness to continue their struggle without fear of destroying the new life the other 25 True Runes were creating. Centuries passed and over the years the chaotic creatures created by Yuber’s Eightfold Rune began to seep out into the human realm, slowly creating another imbalance of power between all 27 True Runes. In order to counter this new threat the bearer of the Four Noble Truths Rune created the possibility to form the 108 Stars of Destiny, those who were chosen to by the Runes to band together and aid the True Runes in keeping balance.

In the Suikoden human realm though, Yuber is seen as a complete mystery to all. He is known only as the Black Knight and for his skill in battle although no one knows anything further outside of this. His presence has been seen often throughout history in the midsts of conflicts among humans, rising up to cause chaos in human societies and often revelling in seeing such disorder.

He also holds a great hatred for the other 26 True Runes, wanting to bring destruction to those who bear their power as his own form of revenge and chaos on the world.

First seen in human society three hundred years before the Gate Rune Wars, Yuber was summoned back to the mortal realm by the sorceress Windy. Contracted to aid Windy and the vampire Neclord in their attempt to come into custody of the Souleater Rune, Yuber attacked the Village of the Hidden Rune in an effort to find the True Rune which lay hidden in. This attack though was unsuccessful as the runes bearer passed the Souleater Rune onto his grandson before distracting the three invaders and allowing his grandson and rune to escape capture.

No other sightings of Yuber were seen after that moment and for three hundred years he remained in the shadows of his own realm, waiting for the moment where he would be summoned once more to the human world in order to create chaos again.

It wasn’t until he was summoned by Windy –for the second time– to fight in the Gate Rune War three hundred years later, that Yuber finally reappeared back in human history. The Black Knight once again contracted to aid Windy in her attempt to reclaim the other half of the Gate Rune she was in possession of by assisting the sorceress in summoning an army to be brought over from his own World of Emptiness. Windy though was defeated during this summoning attempt by the new bearer of the Souleater Rune –Tir MacDohl– and the other 107 Stars of Destiny who aided the rune bearer –Pesmerga being one of the 107 Stars fighting against Chaos– With the knowledge that Order would prevail over Chaos, Yuber disappeared from battle and returned back to the World of Emptiness lying in wait until the next time he was summoned.

During the Gate Rune War though, the Toran Liberation Army’s (Those who fought alongside the 108 Stars of Destiny) strategists –Leon Silverberg– took note of Yuber’s prowess and learnt how to summon the Black Knight himself. This wasn’t done though until three years after the Gate Rune War, where Leon Silverberg summoned the Black Knight to fight in the Dunan Unification War for the Highland Army (Highland being the invading country). Commanding one of the many Highland Army regiments, Yuber aided the Blight family in their attempt to conquest over the Dunan Alliance with the payment of causing chaos on the planet in return.

During the attack on the city of Greenhills, the Black Knight summoned a Bone Dragon in attempt to defeat the bearer of the Rune of Beginnings and disband the gathering 108 Stars of Destiny but the summoned creature was unable to defeat the True Rune bearer’s power, leaving the Dunan Unification Army to retake the city of Greenhills from Highland. It wasn’t long after that, that the Highland Army began to break down, their numbers decimated by the Dunan Unification Army who among the Alliances ranks, Pesmerga was seen to be apart of. Yuber was last seen on the L’Renouille battlefield in Highland among the army facing off against the Dunan Alliance before the Highland Army’s defeat became apparent. Once this became obvious, Yuber once more deserted the fight and left the human realm once again.

During Yuber’s absence from the human realm, Leon Silverberg (having survived through both the Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars) wrote a book detailing how to summon the Black Knight to mortal world. This book was kept secret in the Silverberg family until it was found and read fifteen years later by his grandson –Albert Silverberg– who summoned Yuber just prior to the Second Fire Bringer War breaking out.

Contracted by Albert to aid Luc in their campaign, he was originally only intended to cause conflict between the Zexen Federation and the Grasslands. During the early stages Yuber was used by Luc more as an assassin and bodyguard and secretly made his way into the Hallow and assassinated Chief Zepon of the Lizard Clan, causing the war to break out between the two fractions. Although Luc later wished to destroy his own True Wind Rune and set off to collect the other four elemental runes in order to accomplish this. Yuber with his desire to create chaos and disorder continued aiding Luc in his efforts in which the group almost succeeded in their objectives, if it weren’t once again due to the 108 Stars of Destiny’s interference. After the five elemental True Runes had been collected, Luc’s attempts to destroy these runes failed as the True Rune bearers banded together to thwart their plans and on Luc’s death, Yuber disappeared knowing that his chance to cause chaos and destroy any runes lay in ruin.

With the knowledge of how to summon the Black Knight remaining a secret of the Silverberg family, Yuber has never since been seen after his involvement in the Second Fire Bringer War. The book detailing how to summon Yuber remaining one of the Silverberg family’s greatest secrets lay in wait for the next time the Black Knight would be needed.

Personality:

Yuber - The Wiki @ Landel's DamnedYuber doesn’t hold any emotions or feel any affection towards neither his employers nor the human race in general. His only desires and aims in life are to create chaos in the world and try to actively destroy whoever attempts to wield the True Rune power. His mind is sharp and the Black Knight is highly intelligent, strong in battle Yuber also knows well his time to disappear once knowledge of the opportunity to cause chaos has passed.

He’s similar to that of a mercenary, hiring out his skills and abilities to anyone –no matter their background– who’d offer him in return the payment to cause chaos and disorder. Although his ‘loyalty’ can only be bought with the simple payment of being able to cause chaos, Yuber wouldn’t hesitate to abandon his contractor the moment he realises that Order will eventually win over Chaos. With the knowledge that he’d be unable to continue creating conflict and disorder, Yuber sees it merely as the contract expiring since those who summoned him can no longer provide the Black Knight the payment he demands.

Yuber does though hold a very arrogant air around him, believing that humans are beneath him. This makes him cocky in battle and while he is highly skilled in sword combat, he will find himself surprised if there's a successful attack delivered to his body without him allowing it in the first place. It is due to his arrogance and enjoyment he gains from playing with his opponents that are the causes to any successful surprise attacks. It is only after being successfully attack does Yuber lose his calm and composure and shows his more cruel and sadistic side. Although even despite his arrogance, Yubers fighting skills go unparallel in the Suikoden world and can only truly be matched by Pesmerga.

Runes Possessed and their Abilities:
Eightfold Rune: Governs over the eight spectrums of life - Amphibian, Insect, Reptile, Bird, Mammal, Spirit, Undead and Plant. With the power of the rune Yuber is able to create monsters and minions to summon and do his bidding. Thunder Rune: Holds the power of lightning and is entirely an offensive spell casting rune:
  • Beserk Blow - Inflicts a minimal amount of damage to a large group of targets.
  • Soaring Bolt - Inflicts a moderate amount of eletrical damage to one target.
  • Furious Blow - Inflicts a substantial amount of eletrical damage to one enemy.
  • Thunder Storm - The most powerful lightning spell in regards to a matured lightning rune. This spell inflicts a terrible amount of damage to a group of targets. Although due to this spells potency, it would be entirely devastating to use indoors, harming not only the targets intended, but also causing extreme damage to the building and those within the surrounding areas. Meaning this spell is an 'outdoor' spell only.
The Thunder Rune is not a True Rune; it is simply a matured child rune for the True Lightning Rune. Eight Devil Rune: This rune is attacked to his blades. The power of this particular rune increased Yuber's weapon(s) damage to twice its regular power. This rune is also a matured child rune of Yuber's True Eightfold Rune but is not a True Rune. Yuber also has the ability to teleport during battles. Moving instantly (and through objects) over short distances, it allows the black knight to inflict further damage to his opponents.
Use of his Runes/Abilities in Landel's:
Eightfold Rune: Sealed entirely. Thunder Rune: Almost entirely sealed. He has access to the spell Beserk Blow, but only to the extent of paralyzing his targets for approximately 30 seconds to a minute (Depending on the strength of his intended targets) Eight Devil Rune: Sealed entirely. Teleportation: Yuber is only able to teleport in Landel's, although the institution affects this ability to the point where he can only teleport twice, and that he currently can not teleport through objects.
